Sometimes (or even often) accepting our bodies feels out of reach. This is usually because our focus has narrowed to some aspect of our bodies that is not complying with our expectations, not conforming to the patriarchal society’s requirements of female bodies, or simply causing us emotional or physical pain. In these moments, one of the kindest things we can do for ourselves – and our basically good bodies – is to turn toward our discomfort rather than away from it.
This self-compassionate body scan is an offering to help you rebalance your perspective on your body, from the narrow view of what is not right, to a more holistic and gentle view. It is not a way to get rid of our negative feelings, but a means of expanding to include them as well as the awareness of all that our bodies do, are, provide.
