What if you just stopped trying to change?
Short message this week but it's an important one.
Carl Rogers wrote in his On Becoming a Person, "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
This would suggest that all our efforts at change - all the diets, self-help, programs, the striving, the ambition - are missing one key element. We don't give ourselves unconditional love, respect, and care. Acceptance is hard, especially in this culture, but we can begin by getting off the self-improvement treadmill.
What if you did an experiment in flipping the script. Start to look at all your messy imperfections and ask yourself "What if this is just me?" Could that be enough?
See what happens when you stop trying so hard to change. You might even encounter change that you never anticipated. Let me know.
