Intuitive Meal planning: 5 breakfast ideas

We're talking about meal planning this month in the Intuitive Eating for Life community and I'm sharing some of my favorite ideas. I actually enjoy cooking for myself and my family but I also get into ruts. Sometimes I need to revisit what I enjoy and what I haven't had in a while to bring variety and interest back into what I'm making. In that spirit, here are a handful of breakfast ideas to add to your rotation. They are by no means "the right thing to eat for breakfast," only a starting point for your own creativity and preference.

  • Smoothies

  • Oat milk + frozen banana + almond butter + protein powder

  • Coconut water + frozen berries + hemp hearts + protein powder

  • 2% yogurt + frozen peaches and blueberries + flax meal

  • Protein-fortified almond milk + strawberries + vanilla extract + protein powder

  • Whole milk + banana + walnuts + pinch of cinnamon

  • Oatmeal (hot or overnight)

    • Add maple syrup and walnuts and sprinkle of salt

    • Add raisins, brown sugar, and sliced almonds

    • Add cinnamon and sliced bananas

    • Add cinnamon and apple butter

    • Add butter, diced apple, and maple syrup

  • 2% or Full-fat Yogurt parfaits

    • Layer granola or other crunchy cereal

    • Layer walnuts, almonds, and raisins

    • Stir in strawberry or fig marmalade and top with sliced almonds

    • Layer with crushed nuts and chocolate chips

    • Layer with sliced banana and top with sprinkle of cinnamon

  • Breakfast sandwiches

    • Fried egg and cheddar cheese on whole grain English muffin

    • Scrambled egg and avocado on whole grain toast

    • Poached egg and turkey bacon on whole grain croissant

    • Mini omelet on bagel

    • Fried egg and smoked salmon on whole grain English muffin

  • Breakfast toast

    • Ricotta with smoked salmon, salt, and pepper

    • Avocado with sliced hard-boiled egg with Kosher salt and pepper

    • Hummus with lemon squeeze, sprinkle of cumin, and Kosher salt

    • Mozzarella with sliced tomatoes and basil

    • Goat cheese with cucumber, oregano, and olive oil drizzle
