How to deal with anti-fat bias among family, friends, and colleagues

The holidays are coming and that means get-togethers with family, friends, and colleagues. It might also mean dreaded conversations about weight and dieting, comments about your body or the bodies of others, "concern trolling," and food surveillance.

Few things ruin holiday festivities (or even just a regular day) more than fatphobia and its related words and actions. Many people feel ill-equipped to enter into these situations and either avoid them or resign themselves to being hurt. It doesn't have to be this way.

If you have wound up feeling harmed, dissociated, and shamed after a fatphobic interaction with family, friends, or colleagues, please join me for the
Navigating Fatphobia with Family, Friends, and Colleagues Live Workshop on Wednesday, October 25th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm ET.

This is the first time I am teaching this workshop. We'll discuss:

  • The importance of specific language in navigating fatphobia

  • Ways to prepare your body, mind, and heart for interactions with people who may be triggering

  • The definition of compassionate assertion and why it is essential to navigating difficult situations while practicing self-care

  • Specific words to use when asserting your needs, whether via text message ahead of time, in statements in the moment, or in responses to the statements of others

  • The elements of effective communication so that you can be assertive but not aggressive (unless necessary)

  • How to support yourself before, during, and after potentially triggering interactions

  • Success stories from other Intuitive Eaters

You'll walk away with:

  • A clear framework for navigating potentially triggering situations with other people

  • Sample text messages, statements, and responses to practice and personalize

  • A before, during, and after self-care plan for navigating anti-fat bias with family, friends, and colleagues

  • An opportunity to stay connected with a community of folks just like you!

Whether or not you can attend live, we'll send you a link to the recording and the free PDF.
