Meditation is the HOW of Intuitive Eating + join the meditation challenge

Intuitive Eating is complete. The ten principles contain exactly what you need to transform your relationship with food and body. At the same time, many people struggle with it. Transformation is often painful. Encountering obstacles and facing unexpected challenges can make you think that Intuitive Eating isn’t for you. That somehow your body wasn’t meant to find peace.

Enter the meditation technique. Sitting and feeling the breath slows things down, stabilizes the nervous system, makes it more accessible to stay with discomfort and observe your inner workings – emotions, thoughts, urges, and actions. Recognizing thoughts as stories rather than truths clarifies what is real and what is illusion.

When you inevitably encounter obstacles in your Intuitive Eating practice – and I say inevitable because those obstacles are essential to learning and truly changing – suddenly you become able to stay with your experience, to be less reactive, and to change how you respond to triggering thoughts and events.

For the month of November, the Intuitive Eating for Life community is focusing on meditation. We will also be doing a meditation “challenge” in which we commit to some form of meditation practice each day. This could be five minutes of sitting practice, doing everyday activities with attention and intention, or simply placing your hand on your heart and feeling the warmth of your own body. Won’t you join us?

And to find out more about how meditation can support, deepen, and sustain your Intuitive Eating practice, join me on 11/29 at 6pm eastern time for the Meditation 101 workshop. We’ll discuss why it’s the HOW of Intuitive Eating and much, much more.
